In 2010, a record high of 8 million Australians were facebook users and Australians under 18 years old made up 1 million of these users. Social networking sites, like facebook, twitter, and MySpace, can be a great way to stay in touch with friends, send out party invitations, and share pictures. But have you ever thought of what could happen if you write something mean about a teacher or spread a rumour about a classmate on Facebook? The truth is, while social networking sites can be fun, they can also get you into trouble.

With all the news about social media, we think it’s important to talk to you and your peers about what’s important to you about using social networking sites. Many times kids and teenagers are not even asked about issues that affect them the most. Young people participation is key in helping to shape laws and legislation. We believe it is important for all of you to have your voices heard.

We want to answer all of your questions about what is legal and what is illegal when it comes to using the internet or your phone. This is where you all can help.
