What is Lawmail?

Lawmail is a FREE legal advice and information service for UNDER 18's and their advocates. We do NOT assist adults with adult queries.

Do I have to give my name?

If you would like legal INFORMATION you do not have to give us a name BUT if you would like legal ADVICE then we do need a name and the names of any other people involved.

What is the difference between legal advice and legal information:

Legal information is just general information about the law, like the information on Lawstufff. Legal advice is tailored to your question and can be more helpful than legal information.

Why do you need my name?

We only use your name to check that someone else has not written to us for help about the same issue. This is because we are not allowed to give help to more than one person involved in the same matter.

Will you tell anyone about what I write, like the police or my parents?

No. We cant tell anyone. Lawmail is confidential!
We are NOT allowed to tell anyone (not even your parents or school or friends) that you have written to us or what your question is.

When will I get a reply?

Lawyers at the Centre will reply to your message as quickly as possible, usually within 7 days.

Can I use LawMail for help with school assignments or projects?

No! Lawmail is for people who need legal advice or information about something that is happening to them.

IF YOU WOULD LIKE MORE INFORMATION BEFORE YOU ASK YOUR QUESTION SEND US A LAWMAIL (WITH YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS) OR CALL US (DURING OFFICE HOURS) ON 02 9385 9588.
